《西廂記》 〈惠明〉Huiming the Messenger from The Story of the Western Wing
〈惠明〉一折出自《西廂記》,寫孫飛虎圍困普救寺,書生張珙修書一封,需一遞書之人突破重圍,將信送抵白馬將軍,普救寺長老引薦子弟惠明,其性憨厚率直,兩人以言語激動,挑起他仗義雄心,擔起重任。
Huiming the Messenger, an episode from The Story of the Western Wing, depicts the alarm caused by the sudden attack of Sun the Flying Tiger on the Monastery of Universal Salvation to demand Cui Yinying, daughter of the late Prime Minister, be given to him. Zhang Gong, a scholar, writes a letter requesting assistance from the White‐Horse General and needs a brave messenger to pass through the enemy ranks and deliver the letter. The abbot of the monastery recommends his disciple Huiming, a self‐willed but upright monk. Zhang and the abbot exhort him to take on the task.

《蝴蝶夢》 〈說親〉Matchmaking from The Butterfly Dream
〈說親〉一折出自《蝴蝶夢》,寫寡婦田氏有心於楚王孫,見其僕老蒼頭,欲問得楚王孫之年歲、是否已婚娶等。老蒼頭借醉態裝糊塗,屢屢誤聽田氏言語,兩人互動逗趣,老蒼頭最終答應為田氏說親。
Matchmaking, an episode from The Butterfly Dream, depicts Madam Tian’s meeting with
the old butler of Prince Chu to whom she is attracted. She struggles to inquire about the prince’s
marital status and her inquires are playfully misinterpreted by the drunken butler. Eventually the
Butler agrees to be the matchmaker and sends her proposal to Prince Chu.

《玉簪記》 〈琴挑〉The Zither from The Jade Pin
〈琴挑〉一折出自《玉簪記》,描寫寄居在女貞觀中的潘必正,一晚循琴聲至陳妙常住所,於是藉彈琴表達愛慕之意。妙常對必正雖亦心存愛慕,但礙於身份,不得不假意拒絕。必正告辭後,妙常禁不住自吐心聲,被躲在花蔭下的必正聽到,得知妙常的心意。
The Zither is an episode from The Jade Pin, a story about the vicissitudes of fortune and trials of love between Pan Bizheng, a scholar, and Chen Miaochang, a nun‐to‐be. One night Pan hears someone, who turns out to be Miaochang, playing a zither. Greatly moved by the performance, he unexpectedly arrives at her chamber as he searches for the zither player. Through playing the zither Pan hints at his admiration of her, and Miaochang, though attracted to Pan, feigns indignation and sends him off. Unaware that Pan has not left but is hiding in the shadows outside her chamber, Miaochang confesses her feelings for him, which prompts Pan to reveal himself to her and eventually return to his chamber in exalted joy.

《西遊記》 〈借扇〉Borrowing the Fan from Journey to the West
〈借扇〉一折出自《西遊記》,寫唐三藏與眾徒取經途經火焰山,被烈火所困,不得前進。孫悟空探得其義兄牛魔王之妻鐵扇公主有芭蕉寶扇一把,可滅烈火,乃前往借扇。鐵扇公主因愛子紅孩兒被孫悟空打敗,送與觀音菩薩收降,對孫悟空懷恨在心。兩人相見大打出手,鐵扇公主用扇把悟空煽走。孫悟空折返,先用定風珠克扇,後化身為小蟲隨茶水進入鐵扇公主腹中,公主疼痛難忍,只得將寶扇借與悟空。
In Borrowing the Fan, an episode from Journey to the West, the journey of Tripitaka and his disciples is brought to a standstill by the fiery Flaming Mountain. Sun learns that the magic fan of Princess Iron Fan, wife of his sworn brother the Bull Demon King, would be able to put out the fires and allow them to continue. He asks the Princess for the fan but is rejected outright because she is angry that Sun defeated her son and left him in the hands of the Goddess of Mercy. Sun and the Princess engage in several rounds of fighting before Sun gets hold of the fan.
